Problem Description

Info
The C2 direct to cloud backup service, currently installed on a subset of managed systems, will be discontinued on November 30th, 2024. This change necessitates a transition to a new backup solution and temporary adjustments for non-HQ devices.

Pre-Requisites

  • Affected users must have access to the corporate VPN
  • Active Backup for Business client software must be installed on all systems requiring backup

Resolution Steps

  1. Transition from C2 to Active Backup for Business:
       - Network Security Operations will manage the transition of backup services from C2 to Active Backup for Business
       - No action is required from end-users for this transition
  2.  VPN Requirement for Non-HQ Devices:
       - Users with non-HQ devices must connect to the corporate VPN before initiating backups
       - Ensure your VPN connection is active before starting any backup operations
  3. Temporary Nature of VPN Requirement:
       - The VPN requirement is a temporary measure
       - A public-facing domain for remote backup operations is planned for Q2 of CY25
  4. Timeline:
       - C2 direct to cloud backup service will cease on November 30th, 2024
       - Active Backup for Business will be the primary backup solution after this date
       - VPN requirement for non-HQ devices will be in effect from December 1st, 2024 (Future guide to be published prior to 12/1/24 for end user training)
       - Public-facing domain expected to be available in Q2 of CY25, eliminating the VPN requirement allowing automated backups to the secure Nomaden private cloud. Information on this         will be provided to all users once beta testing is completed by Network Security Operations in Q1 of 2025.
